The Covid-19 update
  1. Awareness drives:

We conducted awareness drive in Bhanjanagar, Belaguntha and surada block of Ganjam district, Kamakhyanagar and Kankadahad of Dhenkanal district, G. Udaigiri block of Kandhamal district and in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. We focused on spreading key messages including, Physical Distancing, use of facial mask/cover, Use of napkins and frequent hand wash. We also shared emergency contact numbers from Government and relevant agencies who are working on relief mission.

  1. Assistance to people at Quarantine centers.

Aaina in closely working with block office in our area of operation in Ganjam, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal and Khurdha and is reviewing the facilities available in the quarantine centre in our area of operation and also making a list of people returning from other state and districts and asking them to stay in quarantine centre for 14 days.

  1. Ration and Protective kit Distribution

Aaina in collaboration with Sense International India has identified 38 vulnerable families, including daily wage laborer and care takers of children with disability in Bhubaneswar city. These families where given essential items including ration and facial masks. The essential ration, given to each family includes rice, wheat flour, oil, chuda, Chatua, Besan, sugar, salt, spices and some vegetables like Potatoes and Onion.

  1. Reaching out through Virtual world.

We have also created online platforms like whatsaap group to reach out to our beneficiaries from our ongoing project in Khurdha, Dhenkanal and Ganjam district. We have created whatsaap group for adolescent girls in Bhanjanagar, Ganjam and women’s group who are part of our skill training program in Kamakhyanagar.

We are also determined to provide psychosocial support and care to the community in our areas of operation by conducting TOT and preparing community volunteers through virtual training. We have also prepared a handbook for volunteers on Domestic Violence.

  1. Jan Sahayata Kendra, Covid-19.

Aaina in collaboration with CYSD has came up with a citizen helpline service to assist people in any issues ranging from, information on Covid prevention to counseling service for women and families to prevent domestic violence through personal and legal tele- counseling.

  1. Virtual Handholding for children in Sparsh day care Center.

The Sparsh Day care Centre of Aaina in Bhubaneswar has been in contact with the care takers of children with disability through virtual platform, e.g Video calls. We have assigned small activities including drawing and image recognition games to these children for keeping them engaged at home during lockdown. The games shall ensure psychosocial development of children at home.

  1. Covid Films, 2020

The film festival encourages enthusiastic film makers; create mind and amateur film makers to make films within 2 minutes to shows the Positivity of the Lockdown. This is an initiative to engage all the creative minds and to keep them engage during lockdown. The received films can later be used in dissemination purpose. We would give in monetary awards to the winners of the contest.
