Julie Grant, VSO Volunteer says Goodbye and Shares her Experience
My time in India has sadly come to an end and I leave Odisha on the 12th of February. I have enjoyed my time working in Kamakhyanagar immensely particularly the field visits with the children, their families and the village level workers. Through my placement I hope to have improved the quality of rehabilitation through training and skill sharing and assisted Aaina in providing improved access to quality rehabilitation at a local level. It is hoped that the improved rehabilitation services will assist CWD in optimising their functional ability and help them to participate in their homes and local community. Through my efforts to ensure the physiotherapy manual is translated into Oriya I have established a connection between aaina and two physiotherapists at SV-NIRTAR. Both these gentlemen are enthusiastic about CBR and have expressed an interest in working in a voluntary capacity in their free time. It is now for aaina as an organisation to strengthen this link and engage the skills and knowledge of local professionals in the management of CWD/PWD.
I wish the team at aaina every success in their future work and will always be available for support and advice through email. The people of Odisha have made my time in India very memorable and they have provided me with wonderful stories for my family and friends back home in Ireland.
