Staff of WASH project of aaina is gearing up to create 5 Open Defecation Free communities in 5 blocks of Ganjam. In this regard 3 capacity building trainings of PRI members on Wash was organized at Bhanjanagar ,Chatrapur and Rangeilunda block in the month of February. PRI members recognized their vital role to make a GP Open Defecation Free (ODF) and how through their involvement the village can become a model for others. Block Development Officer encouraged Aaina for doing IEC activities in their community to bring behavioral change in community towards use of toilet.
Believing youth as strong change agents aaina organized a Community Laid Total Sanitation program, where 40 Adolescent boys and girls from Chatrapur & Rangeilunda participated. Mr. Basant Patnaik & Sanghamitra Nayak form aaina attended the interstate Training of Trainers program on CLTS at Madhya Pradesh organized by Water Aid.
Villagers from Patapur gave a demand letter for their toilet construction to the BDO as they realized the importance of toilet and its benefit. There are 300 toilets constructed in 6 villages of Padmapur GP under SBM covering 1438 house hold. Work order in other villages is in its full swing as well. aaina plans to discontinuous follow up and organize further awareness meeting at the focus GP and strictly follow on the Construction status report with the Respective BDOs
