Balasore Flood Response 2025
A flood relief response is currently underway by Aaina in the Bhograi and Jaleswar blocks of Balasore district, Odisha, following severe flooding caused by heavy monsoon rains and upstream dam water release or Subarnarekha River. The situation has significantly impacted families, farmlands, and livestock across several low-lying and vulnerable villages.
Aaina’s response focuses on ten villages in Bhograi block—Khalabadia, Rasalpur, Kumbhargadi, Patharghata, Manuanagar, Barabatia, Nathipur, Aruhabrutti, Khardipipal, and Aruhabrutti-2 and two villages in Jaleswar block, Devkumar and Namkana.
So far, over 2,600 families, including 319 persons with disabilities, have been identified for immediate support, with the final selection being carried out by village-level committees comprising Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, SHG members, persons with disabilities, community leaders, and at least 50% women members, ensuring a fair, inclusive, and transparent process.
Special priority is being given to pregnant and lactating women, single-woman households, elderly persons, children, and children with disabilities. In addition to material aid, awareness programs on hygiene and emergency safety of women and children are being conducted across each of the 12 villages.
Care is being taken to ensure that the response remains inclusive, community-led, and focused on those most vulnerable to the impacts of the disaster.
