Daan Utsav (earlier called the Joy of Giving Week) is India's "festival of giving"! Launched in 2009, the festival is celebrated every year, in the week including Gandhi Jayanti, i.e., October 2-8, and brings together Indians from all walks of life, to celebrate "giving". Like every year, aaina put up a wish tree during Daan Utsav 2015 as well. The tree prepared contained specific wishes of children under aaina's project needing support. Most of the wishes were in relation to meet the educational or physical needs of children with disability. Each wish also reflected an amount involved to fulfill that wish.
Bharti Infratel, a leading telecom tower infrastructure provider company of Odisha. most willingly agreed to partner in this project and the Wish Tree was placed at their premises (Head Office, BBSR) from October 5 to October 13. Ms. Geetika, aaina oriented the staff about the concept of wish tree. The employees very enthusiastically responded by fulfilling few of the wishes at that moment itself! Mr. Ajay Jalali, Circle Business Head, Bharti Infratel took the initiative to inaugurate and met the first wish, followed by few other employees. The tree remained at Bharti Infratel premises for a week (5th to 13th October 2015) and the employees met many of the wishes throughout the week at the time of their convenience. The ability of Infratel employees to connect with the needs of children was appreciable and their response continued until the very last moment. By the end of the week, in total 58 wishes of children with disability were met amounting to Rs. 19400/-. The wishes fulfilled ranged from school bags, Tiffin box to nutritional needs, winter clothes and money towards physiotherapy for children with disability. Ms. Asha Upadhya, Bharti Infratel enthusiastically and effectively coordinated the whole process on behalf of Bharti Infratel. She expressed her joy to be involved in this cause. At the same time, she regretted that the field staff could not participate in the best of their ability due to their unavailability at the Head Office during Daan Utsav period.
To complete the circle, aaina would be shortly practically fulfilling the wishes of children by distributing the specific materials and would invite Bharti Infratel staff for the same. aaina shall also be updating all the donors through email as and when the materials are distributed.
