aaina celebrated International day for the persons with disability at Keradi Panchayat, Phulbani with the support of PACS, DFID. Sixty persons with disability from Khajuripada and Phulbani block, block Sarpanch along with other professionals from social sector participated.
An awareness rally of about 3 KM spreading massage on rights of person with disability and equality was conducted covering 4 villages. The rally was flagged off by Mr. Daitari Behera (Block coordinator).
Mr. Gadadhar Behera welcomed the guests. Guests of honors spoke in the Day's significance and on rights of people with disability. Participation of PWDs in MGNREGA was encouraged and they were motivated to demand jobs. Inclusion of PWDs in society and their mainstreaming was brought up as the responsibility of every citizen. Different facilities provided by the Government for Person with Disabilities were also discussed. Mr. Basant Patnaik shared success stories after the intervention of aaina and PACS in the district of Kandhamal such as formation of successful SHGs of people with disabilities, business initiatives by them after support from government and enrolled of children with disability in schools.
A panel discussion was organised on topics including Govt. scheme and facilities for person with disability, labor insurance, Self Help Groups of People with Disabilities and its criteria. Thereafter a group activity was conducted among participants to enhance their capacity and create awareness of their rights . The programme ended with the vote of thanks byJudhisthir Nayak.
