aaina participated in a four day Workshop on Menstrual Hygiene organised by Dasra; Geetika from aaina shares her experience

The four day workshop organised by Dasra was an excellent platform to meet, network and share knowledge and experiences with people from varied organizations working on Menstrual Hygiene. There were people from 19 different organizations from different parts of India involved in menstrual hygiene in one way or the other. The first day was full of activities and games with an aim to get familiarized with one another. The rest of the three days involved group activities, guest visits, presentations and discussion on menstrual hygiene, and professional development of the participants.

An activity called “Gallery Walk” was an opportunity for all the participants to visually represent their organization and its key work using pictures, paper cuttings, colored pens etc. on a chart paper. Dasra shared the four cornerstones developed after broad research on menstrual hygiene. These were, Educating mothers on menstrual hygiene, Involving school in menstrual hygiene, Use of local resources and connecting menstruations to health. Topics such as theory of change, stakeholder’s analysis, Developing Elevator’s Pitch played vital role in professional development of the participants.

Participants were fortunate to enrich their experience by listening to different view points and perspectives of the guest speakers and visitors such as Mr. Anshu Gupta from Goonj , Ms. Archana Patkar, Progamme Manager WSSCC , Mr. Vinod Mishra, from WSCC , Ms. Maria Fernandez (WASH United) . May 28 is being celebrated as Menstrual Hygiene Day for the first time and aaina is a proud member of the same.
